RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Through three reports, WRAL TechWire has reviewed employee ratings and opinions to identify from their point of which what are some of the best and worst companies to work for across the Triangle for tech-related jobs.

Startup Pendo came in at No. 1 with Frontier Communications placing No. 50.

Criteria include:

1.      An overall rating system of 1 to 5 stars

2.      Approval of the CEO

3.      The percentage of employees who would recommend their employer to a friend.

Numerous companies shared ratings from Glassdoor, so to create a 1-50 list we needed tie breakers. This information came from another jobs site, Indeed.com. We used the Indeed rating, but even then several companies remained tied, so we added other information from Indeed, such as “work life balance,” “management” and “culture.” In several cases, more than one of these secondary criteria from Indeed were needed to complete the list.

Workers speak out about their bosses, good and bad – and CEOs are listening

We should note this list is not just about tech companies but firms that include tech-focused employees. More companies will be added as we gather additional data.

To broaden the mix a bit we included two firms from Wilmington (nCino and PPD) and from Charlotte (Flexential, formerly Peak 10) because they either have operations in the Triangle or are setting a frantic pace in its field of expertise, such as nCino in fintech. We also included two federal agencies – the EPA and NIH – which have substantial operations in RTP.

We should also point out that WRAL TechWire sought information on numerous companies, from startups to more established firms and trade associations, that weren’t included in the final 50 due to a lack of information from employees.
