An Indian pharmaceutical firm plans to put its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Harnett County, officials said Wednesday.

KriGen Pharmaceuticals LLC expects the $7 million, 55,000-square-foot Lillington plant, which will produce medical IV bags and injectable drugs, will create 100 jobs.

“The vision of KriGen Pharmaceuticals is to improve the quality of human lives by providing affordable pharmaceutical formulations based on innovation and technology,” Chief Financial Officer Dhruvkumar Patel said in a statement. “We aspire to be the best health care solution providers with finished product formulation solutions for generic, as well as branded, pharmaceutical companies.”

The average annual wage for the new jobs will be $42,570, higher than Harnett County’s average of $33,061.

KriGen has qualified for a $200,000 grant from the One North Carolina Fund, which matches financial assistance provided by local governments to attract economic investment. Companies receive no money upfront and must meet job and investment targets to obtain payment.
