On event horizon: DIG SOUTH, Lulu eGames, Grid Edge East + more in April

Plenty of technology and life science events and deadlines are on tap for April, and we suggest you pencil them into your calendar soon.

March 29 – April 7

Climate City Expo (or CCx) is a multi-part, 10-day celebration of Asheville’s creativity, innovation and dedication to climate change awareness. (More coverage here.)

April 1, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. @The Collider

An opportunity for two- and four-year undergraduate students to connect with climate science professionals and learn more about the field. They can also present their own solutions at a business case competition. CCx: NextGen is the student conference track of Climate City Expo.

On the Menu: Practicing Effective Video for Business

April 1, 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. @Frontier 600

In RTP Frontier’s next “On the Menu” workshop, Justin Plant and Ben Oliver of Storyboard Media will explain how to practice effective video for business.

A Conversation with Bill Nye: EXTREME Weather

April 1, 7-9 p.m. @Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, Asheville

This track of Asheville’s 10-day Climate City Expo is headlined by famous science communicator Bill Nye. He and WBEZ Chicago NERDette podcast host Greta Johnsen will discuss the climate science implications of extreme weather. This talk is intended for middle schoolers and beyond.

Venture Asheville’s new Asheville Impact Micro-Grant program offers $5,000 to early-stage startups through a community-sourced donations process. More details here.

Net Inclusion 2019

April 1-3 @Harris Conference Center

This event welcomes digital inclusion practitioners, advocates, academics, internet service providers and policymakers to discuss policies impacting digital equity, support of digital inclusion programs, best practices and more.

CCx: Business

April 2-3 @The Collider

This two-day conference brings together professionals, climate scientists, entrepreneurs, investors and business executives for networking, presentations, panels and a pitch showcase featuring local startups. CCx: Business is the business conference track of Climate City Expo.

Startup Networking + Pitching + Coffee

April 2, 12-1:30 p.m.

This weekly event brings together local founders and startup teams for introductions and networking. At the event, they can also watch or participate in an online pitch session, joining startups in the StartupBlink network around the world.

Emerging Biotechnologies in Agriculture

April 2, 5:30-8 p.m. @NC State Hunt Library

Join Triangle BABCNC and NC State’s Genetic Engineering and Society Center to discuss the GMO debate in the U.S. and Europe, and the genetic approaches to agricultural pest management and crop science.

GTM Forum: Grid Edge East 2019

April 3 @Duke Fuqua School of Business

Join Greentech Media and forward-thinking utilities at the center of grid digitalization for a day of discussion about the latest advancements in distribution innovation along the East Coast.

1 Million Cups CLT

April 3, 8:30-10 a.m.

Held every month, 1 Million Cups Charlotte features a presentation from a local startup followed by a Q&A from the community. Free coffee is included.

Becoming an Investor Ready Entrepreneur

April 3, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. @Center for Engineering Technologies, Hickory

In this full-day educational event, entrepreneurs will learn how to understand the investment process and find out what investors are looking for. These insights will help participants prep for raising capital with an insider’s perspective in mind.

Lulu eGames LIVE

April 3, 6-8 p.m. @NC State

At this annual event, NC State entrepreneurs compete to win $100,000 in cash prizes for the best and most innovative ideas. The 2019 program will be emcee’d by WRAL-TV anchor/reporter Renee Chou.

Application Deadline: NC Biotech Center Flash Grant

April 3

For its Flash Grant program, the North Carolina Biotech Center is on the lookout for innovative life science technology ideas with early indications of commercial potential. Applications in the second cycle of the 2019 program are due April 3 at noon.

MO Summit

April 4-5 in Asheville

MO is an invitation-only event in Asheville that brings together CEOs and entrepreneurs for two days of discussion featuring a compelling lineup of business leaders.

Larger Than Life Science

April 4, 4-7 p.m. @The Chesterfield

Venture Café Thursday Gathering
