DURHAM – StrongKey, a Silicon Valley security technology startup with a presence in Durham, is looking to grow its Triangle presence as part of expansion following closing on $10 million in new funding.

StrongKey is also merging with its parent firm, StrongAuth, as part of the investment.

“The combination into one company will only have positive impacts on Durham operations,” a company spokesperson tells WRAL TechWire.

“The rebranding is an indication of the continued growth of the company and its motivation to redefine how businesses and government agencies protect their information by making breaches irrelevant.”
StrongKey opened its Durham operation earlier this year. The firm’s website currently lists 15 job openings across its locations.
“StrongKey is using the investment to change the way businesses and government agencies protect sensitive information even with an attacker on the network,” the spokesperson noted.
The combination of the company and the new funding were announced Tuesday.
“2018 has brought tremendous positive change for us,” Jake Kiser, CEO of StrongKey, said in the announcement. “We have repositioned the company to take our message of enterprise key management infrastructure to both large and small organizations. StrongKey’s solutions have the robustness that powers the mission-critical and revenue-generating applications for Fortune 50 companies, as well as the affordability that enables startups to comply with the most stringent security regulations.”

StrongKey describes its data security technology as being based on three key points:

  • Secure to the core: By securing data at its core—through the use of strong authentication, encryption and digital signatures— and supported by hardware-based key management, StrongKey’s products ensure that data, no matter the format, remains encrypted and protected at the highest possible level, even if the network is breached.
  • Goodbye passwords, hello control: With StrongKey, users retain exclusive control over their data. The company harnesses the power of the FIDO Alliance authentication protocol, which removes the burden, insecurity and annoyance of passwords.
  • Hardened solution for key protection: StrongKey products are deliberately physical, leveraging the strength and security that only physical hardware can offer.
