RALEIGH – Charter Communications has launched Spectrum Business Internet Gig (SBIG) in the Triangle, delivering a 1 Gbps connection to small and medium-sized businesses.

A 1 Gbps connection is about 20 times faster than 50 Mbps cable connections. Downloading a 2 hour HD movie  of 3 to 5 GB on a 100mbps connection would take 4.5 minutes. At 1 gig, 25 seconds.

SBIG prices start at $249.99 a  month for new customers with no modem fees or data caps. It uses the DOCSIS 3.1 technology with advanced signal processing allowing delivery of higher capacity service.

“Spectrum Business’ state-of-the-art, fiber-rich network allows us to deploy dramatically faster business broadband speeds, including gigabit connections, broadly and rapidly,” said Tom Rutledge, Charter Communications chair and CEO in a statement.

“As business demand for bandwidth and capacity continues to grow, our world-class network is best-positioned to meet these demands, today and into the future.”

Spectrum says it expects to make the 1 Gbps business service available in all of its 41-state service area by the end of the month.

Spectrum Business Internet Gig includes a modem, customer WiFi for businesses with public seating or lobby areas, custom domain and email addresses, cloud backup and desktop security software, all at no additional charge. Spectrum Business Internet also comes with no contracts, taxes or hidden fees, and is backed by a 30-day customer satisfaction guarantee.

Spectrum made 1 gbps service available residentially in the Triangle last year. Its residential service speeds start at 200mbps.
