NC headliners: VentureSouth, Fintech, NC TECH Tour & more

Keeping track with our initiative to spotlight North Carolina startup and tech events, WRAL TechWire’s weekly “Headliners” column is now divided into two parts—inside and outside the Triangle.

Following is a list of June meetups, conferences, workshops, socials and networking events happening in Asheville, Charlotte, the Piedmont Triad, and other areas throughout North Carolina.

NC TECH Tour Asheville

In celebration of NC TECH Association’s 25th anniversary, the team is traveling from the mountains to the coast to meet up with members, connect with partners and host celebratory networking receptions. Join in Asheville on June 11 for a panel discussion about analytics and IoT, followed by a Brews and Bytes event at local breweries.

VentureSouth 2018 Summit—Charlotte

VentureSouth’s full-day summit features a panel of entrepreneurs sharing how they exited their companies, a member meeting, an investor cocktail party, and more.

Winston Starts Inform Speaker Series, Feat. Doug Young

Doug Young, a serial entrepreneur who has exited 10 of his 12 companies, will share how he recruited and retained the teams he built throughout his career.

The Collider Lunch & Learn Series: Customer Success

Mike Connors, a customer success director for startups, will show participants how to continue leading their company’s growth after they’ve hit their sales numbers. This event is part of The Collider’s summer-long series of bi-weekly lunch and learns.

NC TECH Tour Charlotte

Flywheel Idea Tap

Idea Tap is an opportunity for local startups to present their products/services to an audience and receive feedback on how to refine their pitches. The format involves: a five-minute pitch, a five-minute Q&A and five minutes of audience feedback. This monthly event is always free.

Fintech Generations

The annual Fintech Generations event addresses topics surrounding the growth of the fintech ecosystem in the Southeast.

1 Million Cups Asheville

June 13, 9-10 a.m. @Asheville Social Hall

Asheville’s entrepreneurial community meets weekly to hear presentations and support one another in continuing to grow. For this week’s event, 1 Million Cups Asheville will feature local startup Burban.

How to Finance a Startup

In this workshop series, Flywheel Co-Founder Peter Marsh and Malartu CEO and Co-Founder Jon Spinney will guide participants through everything a founder needs to know about financing options, setting financial milestones and attracting investor capital. The four part course schedule is as follows: June 6: Startup Financing Overview, June 13: Early Stage Financing in Depth, June 20: Series A, Series B and Beyond, June 27: Term Sheets and Agreements.

Food Bioscience: Inform, Inspire and Invest

This event aims to raise awareness of the Triad’s and North Carolina’s food companies, and how they are using bioscience to preserve limited resources and produce high quality products, even in unlikely places.

The Collider Lunch & Learn: Evaluate a Startup—Sustainability Investment Series

Huckleberry Capital Management Partner and Investment Manager Isaac Pino will deliver a presentation on what factors to consider when evaluating a startup in the electric vehicle industry. This event is part of The Collider’s summer-long series of bi-weekly lunch and learns.

Charlotte PitchBreakfast

June 14, 8-11 a.m. @The Garage at Packard Place

A handful of Queen City-based companies will headline June’s Charlotte PitchBreakfast, presenting their products and services for a total of five minutes, after which they will answer questions from the audience and a panel of experts. The goal of PitchBreakfast is to give startups a comfortable environment to test out pitches they can later present to investors.

Venture Café Thursday Gathering

June 14, 5-8 p.m. @Bailey Power Plant in Winston-Salem

Held on a weekly basis, this Venture Café event series provides all sorts of programming for Piedmont Triad entrepreneurs and innovators. Every Thursday evening, the community gathers for networking, panel talks, workshops, presentations, product demos, interviews, and more.

Tech Talent South’s Techpreneur Showcase

This week’s Venture Cafe Thursday Gathering features a pitch session hosted by Tech Talent South. Local entrepreneurs will deliver a short presentation, followed by a Q&A and feedback from the audience.

NC TECH Tour Wilmington

June 15, 12-2 p.m. @UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

In celebration of NC TECH Association’s 25th anniversary, the team is traveling from the mountains to the coast to meet up with members, connect with partners and host celebratory networking receptions. PercCollider Climate Coffee Hour

Application Deadline: Innovate Charlotte Pilot Program

Innovate Charlotte, an arm of the Charlotte Regional Fund for Entrepreneurship, is seeking applicants for its upcoming pilot program, which aims to serve entrepreneurs looking to bring their startups to the next level. Five companies will be admitted to the three-month mentorship program.

Build Actions for Your Community

BLKTECHCLT Learning Lab: Negotiation and Partnerships 101

Flywheel Coworking Indeavor Club Lunch
