RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Veteran entrepreneur and venture capitalist Christy Shaffer is the newest addition to the Board of Governors at RTI International.
RTI announced Shaffer’s selection Thursday morning.
Shaffer currently is a general partner at Hatteras Venture Partners, which is based in Durham.
The first full-time employee at Triangle-based Inspire Pharmaceuticals, she led Inspire to an IPO in 2000. The company was acquired by Merck in 2011. Shaffer later joined Hatteras.
Inspire raised more than $300 million from investors during her tenure.
Shaffer, who earned a Ph.D., spent more than 25 years in life science as a clinical scientist and international project leader.
