RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Enthusiasm and confidence about the Triangle winning the Amazon HQ2 project is surging in the ongoing audience poll among viewers and readers of WRAL, WRAL.com and WRAL TechWire.
While unscientific, the poll shows 67 percent of participants want Amazon to bring HQ2 and its 50,000 jobs to the region. That’s up six percentage points from a review of results posted on April 11.
Meanwhile, belief that the Triangle will win has climbed to 23 percent from 21 percent.
The number of people participating also continues to grow, climbing 40 percent over the past two weeks to well over 21,000 as of April 29.
Despite the growing trend, support for the project is less than the nearly 80 percent of support shown in an Elon College-Business Journals poll published on April 18.

However, enthusiasm among readers and viewers has surged toward that poll number despite recent stories that warned Triangle renters would face substantial increases in prices, that the repealed HB2 “bathroom bill” remains a challenge and a survey of online want ads that indicate RTP is not a likely choice.
A review of the online poll results finds that:
- 30 percent don’t believe the Triangle has a “chance,” down from 45 percent
- 21 percent are “sure” RTP will win, up 6 percentage points
- 47 percent say the Triangle is just as likely a choice as any of the other finalists, up 9 points
Biggest concern about the project remains traffic and crowding, which climbed 3 percentage points to 58 percent.
Readers remain closely divided about what site is the most likely Amazon choice other than Raleigh:
- 19 percent sat New York, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia or Washington DC
- 18 percent say Nashville or Atlanta
- 15 percent say Dallas or Austin
- 11 percent say Indianapolis or Denver
- 10 percent say Los Angeles
