The American Underground (AU) at Main in Durham hosts the Google Demo Day watch party Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. to catch the simulcast feed from San Francisco as  ten startups, including Durham-based Fathom, pitch their companies to investors.

The AU, which works with Google in the Triangle and has helped produce previous Demo Day winners, picked Fathom for the competition. And AU has demonstrated credibility in previous Demo Days, producing champions in Windsor Circle and Mati Energy.

Fathom, a wearable device startup using artificial intelligence to predict biomechanical response so people can avoid injuries, was formed by two former NCAA Duke University athletes. Look for WRAL Techwire’s profile of the company Wednesday morning.

AU’s Garrett Wood tells WRAL Techwire, “We’re gathering folks in the bullpen @Main starting at 12:30pm-12:45pm for lunch. The program starts at 1 p.m. EST and will run until 4 p.m. EST. We will have a quick opening, have lunch while watching the first few pitches, and then invite the community to work/hangout in the Bullpen for the last half of the program.”

AU Executive Director Doug Speight, in an interview from San Francisco where he accompanied Fathom for its pitch, said “Fathom is an interesting company in an interesting space with a lot of exciting opportunity for them going forward.”

San Francisco, he said, “Is a really energetic environment.”
