Charter Communications is launching its Spectrum Internet Gig across the Triangle, delivering a 1 Gbps connection to its customers. In addition, Spectrum is doubling its minimum internet speeds in the Triangle to 200 Mbps at no additional cost to its new and existing Spectrum internet customers.

Internet Gig will be priced at $104.99 a month. It is offered without caps or contracts.

Charter CEO and Chair, Tom Retledge said in a statement, “As technology continues to evolve, the products and services of tomorrow will increasingly rely on faster broadband connections.”

He didn’t say it, but the move is likely intended to offer stiffer competition to Google Fiber in the region, as well as win back customers peeled off by other providers.
