As they say at NASA, it’s T-minus-(shortly) for a new WRAL TechWire website and an expanded mission for 2018.

Launching a new website takes much more than a snap of the fingers. The countdown toward the new site continues. But this takes time – such as the creation of a new archive packing nearly 50,000 stories.

That’s right – 50,000.

In fact, the data transfer has taken several days to complete. This includes every story posted to TechWire’s launch in January 2002. Plus, we are incorporating nearly 3,000 stories published by ExitEvent, which recently ceased publication.

The tech team at Capitol Broadcasting Company’s New Media Group is working away to finish up a new site that is going to be fast and lean yet packed with content about North Carolina’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. Adding the archives of CBC-owned ExiEvent is part of TechWire’s efforts to provide a digital history of our state’s high-tech transition from the height of the “dotcom” boom to today.

We’ve given you a taste of what’s to come over the past few weeks with:

But we are far from finished.

A team of experienced, talented contributors to TechWire has grown to nearly 10. This means you as readers will be presented with diverse points of view from the Coast to the Mountains – with a heavy emphasis on the Research Triangle, which remains the heart of NC’s tech ecosystem.

The new website will be much more user friendly and include additional video as well as a fully interactive calendar.

We will keep you posted about developments and the final launch date.

T-minus-soon to lift off.

Hope you will enjoy the ride to come.
