This is the second of our new weekly roundup of noteworthy upcoming events to add to your agenda.

This digest will focus on must-attend events happening in the next few weeks, including a marketing summit featuring execs from Mozilla to Netflix to Mashable, an open-source data innovation showcase, an inaugural fintech conference in Charlotte, and more.

North Carolina Tech Awards

The North Carolina Technology Association is holding its annual awards ceremony this week. The finalists are local companies representing a range of industries from software and IoT to biotech and telehealth. Innovate Raleigh Summit: Advancing the Innovation Ecosystem

This annual conference is held by Innovate Raleigh in partnership with the Wake County and City of Raleigh economic development offices and the Raleigh Chamber. The event aims to tackle any and all challenges that impact the local innovation economy. The keynote speaker is writer and community consultant Peter Kageyama, who authored “For the Love of Cities” and “Love Where You Live.”

Cucalorus Connect in Wilmington

November 9-10

A two-day mesh of workshops, networking and speakers focusing on all things tech will take place in Wilmington this week (https://wraltechwire.com/wilmington-to-host-tech-innovation-conference-nov-9-10/17020618/). It’s part of the city’s flagship film festival Cucalorus (http://www.cucalorus.org/), which is in its 23rd year. Cucalorus Connect sessions will be held in conjunction with the festival. Discussions will cover data, attracting talent through culture, crowdfunding, design, the North Carolina seafood economy, and more.

The Women in Tech Summit

This annual conference connects and empowers women in tech careers, across all fields of specialty. It includes workshops, networking, discussions and information sessions spanning topics relevant to women tech professionals. Student tickets cost $40; regular admission is priced at $100.

NC DataPalooza 2017

The fifth annual event of its kind, the NC Open Pass (http://ncopenpass.com/) DataPalooza will showcase data innovations from three teams. They’ll pitch their ventures to a panel of judges, and a $5,000 cash prize will be granted to the winner. Tickets, which range from $10-$35 give attendees light snacks and local beverages, as well as networking with open source experts, entrepreneurs and investors.

TechMedia is back with its popular annual marketing conference, Internet Summit. This year’s speakers hail from brands as prolific as Netflix, Mashable, Showtime, Mozilla and Adobe. The topics to be covered include content, mobile and video, SEO and search techniques, email, design and social strategy.

2017 SEBIO Investor & Partnering Forum

At the fifth annual Southeast BIO Investor and Partnering Forum, a group of companies—half of them from North Carolina (https://wraltechwire.com/half-of-sebio-presenting-firms-are-from-nc/17079018/)—will present their life science and medical technology to an audience of over 300 investors, corporate execs, university leaders and entrepreneurs. Black Girls CODE Raleigh Durham Chapter Presents: Women of Color in STEM

The local chapter of the national Black Girls Code organization will join for an evening of discussion and community-connecting. It will bring together some of the Triangle’s leading figures in the movement to diversify STEM fields, who will join in a panel discussion. The event, which is free and open to the public, aims to speak to girls ages 7 to 17 along with their parents or guardians.

A full-day showcase of the top fintech companies growing around the Southeast will take place in Charlotte later this month. The inaugural conference will bring together venture capital and growth firms, as well as financial technology entrepreneurs and industry leaders in the Queen City. Four startups in the fall Queen City Fintech accelerator program will headline this month’s Charlotte PitchBreakfast. Student solutions are needed to make a more sustainable world. During this weekend-long challenge, student teams research, design, prototype and build a new solution that addresses a sustainability challenge. On the last day, community and industry sustainability experts evaluate solutions and award prizes to the top teams in each category, as well as a grand prize to the overall winner.
