It’s not just pay that employees are looking for as employers scramble to fill thousands of jobs with the unemployment rate in decline.

Workers in the Triangle value most as benefits such as the ability to learn and grow and advancement opportunities more than bonus or stock options, according to a new survey of chief information officers.

In a recent GlassDoor survey, more than 20,000 jobs were listed as being available in the Triangle, and millions of jobs remain unfulfilled across the nation.

Demand for workers thus has companies looking to recruit with benefits well beyond pay. And the Triangle hiring environment does differ somewhat from the national survey of 2,500 CIOs across 25 metro areas.

Pay is biggest obstacle

Not that pay isn’t important.

“The most common barrier to landing the best candidates is not being able to meet salary demands (44 percent), followed by not finding enough qualified applicants (33 percent) and not being seen as an employer of choice (21 percent),” Robert Half reports.

The learning and advancement opportunities rank No. 1 and No. 2 with bonus and stock options No. 3, staffing firm Robert Half Technology says. The top two are slightly different than benefits cited in the national survey results.

In a national survey, learning and having opportunities to work on an interesting project finish 1-2.

The opportunity to work on interesting projects ranks No. 3 in the Raleigh-area survey.
