Spiffy’s latest spin on car care: Subscription service – CEO Wingo explains why

Spiffy, the car maintenance startup backed by serial entrepreneur and investor Scot Wingo, is expanding its portfolio of services with a subscription offering that enables customer to preschedule servicing.

The startup, also known as Get Spiffy, has continuously expanded its geographic footprint to include partnerships with office parks in the Triangle, Charlotte, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Dallas.

**We spend a lot of time thinking about how we can take friction out of our customer’s lives and when we talk to our high frequency customers at office parks we service, they have told us – ‘You guys have made washing my car very easy, now if only you would automatically schedule my wash for me on a monthly/every other week/weekly basis,'” Wingo tells WRAL TechWire.

“So that was the kernel of the idea.”

Spiffy closed on $2.5 million in additional funding, the April raise helping provide fuel for growth.

The Amazon inspiration

Wingo also says he drew inspiration from Amazon, a company he has long followed and worked with from his days at launching and running ecommerce services provider ChannelAdvisor, which launched in 2001.

“Also, as you know, I follow Amazon very closely,” he points out, “and their Prime program has been a clear winner, so we wanted something like that, but for car care.”

The annual program enables customers to save up to 50 percent on services and on-ste maintenance on a weekly, biweekly and monthly basis.

“We are working to eliminate 100% of the friction from the on-demand car care customer experience,” Wingo explained in the announcement. “With Spiffy Care, customers can now sign up for the desired wash frequency (monthly/biweekly/weekly) and ‘set and forget’ their car cleaning task-list for the entire year. Spiffy will come to their office and keep their vehicle constantly clean.”
