Meeting a years-old demand for co-working open to freelance, consulting and professional service workers, American Underground is ready to unveil its newest space in downtown Durham.
Gridworks started welcoming tenants last week to its second floor space in the historic Art Deco Kress department store building. It’s got all the amenities as American Underground—free coffee, call rooms, private offices, unlimited conference room use, flexible lease terms, community events—with the promise of a diverse group of companies and coworkers.
American Underground’s existing three downtown Durham spaces are geared toward high growth startups, specifically in technology fields. So this is a move toward welcoming a broader group of workers to the community. Prices range from $299 monthly for coworking to $1,999 for the largest private office package.
Co-working continues to trend in the Triangle area, with even spaces in smaller towns like Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs expanding quickly. But Durham has had a gap for more general coworking since Bull City Coworking shut down last year.
