Serial investor David Gardner’s latest deal is bringing a fast-growing Silicon Valley app startup to the Triangle along with as many as 50 jobs.

Cofounders Capital in Cary has invested $275,000 in Map My Customers, a two-year-old bootstrapped startup whose app technology links mobile sales teams to customers. The firm has won over nearly 20,000 users already – and convinced Gardner to make an investment based on its already demonstrated traction.

As part of the deal, Map My Customers’ founders have relocated to the Triangle and have already posted seven new jobs. According to its website, the company is expecting to grow to as many as 50 employees.

Cofounders notes that Map My Customers “seeks to be what’s missing from CRM’s to enable outside sale teams to increase efficiency and revenue.” The app utilizes trade marked “smart routing” tech to help sales reps plan their prospecting trips and coordinate followups.

Customer praise

And some users have praised the app, which is downloadable for both Apple IoS and Android devices.

“User friendly very helpful App,” posted a customer at iTunes.

“I travel a lot for work and have bonus accounts that I don’t follow regularly. They plugged them into the app for me by address and boom every time I’m in an area I open the app to see if one is nearby. I can track all data into the app from a check in to standard notes. Love this app and the support!!”

Added another:

“I am a yarn Rep for 7 states with over 300 stores & I must say I have to keep in regular contact with them all, I couldn’t keep this good of contact information with out this app or keep track of them all with maps & locations & distance and so much more with out this user friendly app. It is a must have for me.”

The company, app

Matthew Sniff, founder and CEO of Map My Customers, landed backing from Gardner after leading his team through the Lighthouse Labs Accelerator. He plans to use the funding to “scale” the company and build a larger sales group.

“I started Map My Customers as a direct result of watching my father, who has been a field/outside sales rep for 35 years”, Sniff explains. “He would get in his car every morning and look through hundreds of rows of stale spreadsheet data to organize his week. We knew there had to be a better way, so I worked with him to create it.”

Gardner sees much potential for the company.

“There are a lot of CRM [customer relationship management] tools on the market today but none built from scratch to meet the specific needs of a mobile or field sales team”, he said in the funding announcement,

“Helping your customers work smarter and more effectively is a powerful value proposition and I believe the reason for this company’s incredible organic growth so far.”
