RTI International is forming a new division to work with clients on developing and delivering what it calls sustainable “impact solutions” in economic development. The division is called Attego, which derives from the Latin for “achieve.”

The full name is Attēgo ESG Impact Solutions.

The group’s “sole focus” is to provide environmental, social and governance impact solutions, or ESG.

Jason Norman of RTI will serve as managing director of Attēgo. He has worked at RTI since 2011 and most recently was general manager for responsible resource development.

“We wanted to create a brand that would specifically identify and focus on services to private sector operating companies and investors in need of environmental, social and governance impact solutions,” an RTI spokesperson told WRAL TechWire.

“We wanted a brand that would provide potential clients with concrete and distinct services that address their specific needs, allowing them to access the most relevant aspects of RTI’s skills and expertise. And while Attēgo directly supports RTI’s overall mission to improve the human condition, it applies services in innovative and different ways. This is reflected by the unique brand.”

The division will draw employees and resources from across the international nonprofit organization and will be based in RTP, the spokesperson added. Norman will report to Michael Kaelin, RTI’s chief financial officer, she added.

Attego plans to draw on RTI “social and environmental scientists, economists, statisticians, development experts, workforce and education experts,” RTI said.

The “four pillars” of its offerings will be:

  • ESG Assessment
  • ESG Financial and Impact Optimization
  • ESG Implementation
  • ESG Validation

“With an ever-evolving global economy and an increasingly transparent world, companies need a new approach for engaging effectively with local stakeholders, mitigating risks, and delivering positive returns to their shareholders,” Norman said in a statement. “RTI founded Attēgo to address that exact need. It’s a tremendously exciting time for us at Attēgo: as we launch our new brand we have the depth of knowledge, talent and resources of RTI to support us.”

Attēgo’s aims include:

  • Helping clients identify and mitigate risks
  • Helping clients develop plans that maximize local economic growth
  • Helping clients build local capacity, and minimize potential negative impacts on the environment and local communities
  • Helping clients generate a return on investment

“RTI is uniquely positioned to provide this integrated solution to clients across resource-dependent industries,” said Wayne Holden, RTI’s president and CEO. “Launching Attēgo as its own division offers us the opportunity to extend RTI’s extensive knowledge in environmental resource planning, local capacity building and large-scale assessments to the private sector, where we can extend our impact and our mission to improve the human condition.”
