Many students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are eager to share their thoughts and ideas with the world. 1789 Venture Lab was founded four years ago by serial entrepreneur and UNC entrepreneur-in-residence Jim Kitchen as an incubator lab to help students make those ideas a reality.
The facility is free to all UNC students, giving them a place to work on their businesses, to collaborate and nurture one another’s ideas. They also get help from program assistant Stefano Rivera (in video below), professors from the Kenan Flagler Business School and mentors involved in the city’s startup accelerator, Launch Chapel Hill.
New this year at 1789 are two specific programs for students. There’s a venture track for students with an existing business idea and a member track for students not currently working on a business idea but interested in learning more about entrepreneurship. Both programs were presented during last week’s kickoff party alongside a variety of other entrepreneurship-focused programs at UNC. The event drew more than 100 students, making it 1789’s biggest crowd since opening.
