Slidr, an Asheville-based company that provides free short-distance rides in electric vehicles may be coming to Raleigh if the city council approveds the idea, the Raleigh News and Observer reports.

Owner and CEO of Slidr, Michael Trambino, spoke to the Raleigh city council Tuesday who said he should meet with the city transportation department staff.

The company sells ads on the cars and also receives some funding from the city where it operates.

Trambino told the counciol Slidr is a “safe, easy, reliab le and more efficient way to get around town.”

Each of the company’s electric cars will take as many as five people within a 3-mile area of downtown at a top speed of 26 miles per hour. Drivers work for tips.

Trambino said the service provided more than 2,000 rides in Ashville since launching in October.

The company has a Facebook page but not a separate web site at this writing.
