Never do laundry again.” Catching saying, eh? Dream come true?

Charlotte-based 2ULaundry touted its pickup and delivery service during the recent CED Tech Venture conference.

Investors are responding

The Charlotte startup has landed $400,000 from 11 investors, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Started as a project at Wake Forest University, 2ULaundry provides laundry pickup and delivery services including wash and fold, eco-friendly dry cleaning and repairs.

The minimum investment accepted from outside investors was $5,000, with the offering not made in connection with a business combination transaction such as a merger, acquisition or exchange offer. The offering is not expected to last more than one year.

2ULaundry’s service areas include the Charlotte metro, Ballantyne, Matthews, Pineville and Fort Mill. It has an emphasis on environment sustainability, using eco-friendly detergent, garment bags and recyclable hangers, according to North Carolina Business News Wire.

John Alexander Smereczniak, the company’s chief executive officer, signed the Form D on Nov. 14.

Here’s a profile of the company, one of a series of by WRAL TechWire published in partnership with the Council for Entrepreneurial Development.

  • What is the focus of your business?

2ULaundry is a premium subscription pickup and delivery service for laundry and dry cleaning, replacing brick and mortar dry cleaners and laundromats.

What is the top pain point/business application you are seeking to address?

Laundry is the world’s most hated household chore, with the average family spending 36 hours per month washing, drying, and folding clothes. Going to the dry cleaners is a hassle for busy working professionals because they are at work before the cleaners opens or after they close. Then, there’s the added headache of remembering to go back and pick up the cleaned garments three days later.

  • What makes it unique?

We rise above the rest for three reasons: the business fundamentals, cleaning quality, and punctual delivery. Other laundry companies have failed because they didn’t solve for driver costs or managing quality assurance at scale.

Scheduled from their simple web app or via text, 2ULaundry picks up, cleans, folds and then returns your clothes all within 1 business day.

Our software automates the logistics chain which allows us to offer a more convenient service offering while staying price competitive with the local cleaners.

  • Why should investors be interested in your firm?

Just outsourced laundry is a $14B industry. 70% or $9.8B is from households that make over $65k. The dry cleaning and accessory market (shoe repairs, & alterations) adds another $9B and $2B respectively.

This doesn’t even include the additional $16B that could be added to the outsourced laundry segment due to the rapidly growing convenience economy which we’re already experiencing based on the 98% of our customers that have washers & dryers at home.

Convenience wins.
