Myrtle Beach startup PermitZone will showcase its permitting technology at the CED Tech Venture Conference.

Here’s a profile of the company.

This is the latest in a series of presenting companies in a partnership between the Council for Entrepreneurial Development and WRAL TechWire.

  • What is the focus of your business?

Make permitting requirements easy to access and give contractors the ability to pull permits online, from anywhere.

  • What is the top pain point/business application you are seeking to address?

Of the 19,655 building departments that serve 33,088 municipalities nationwide, over 89% require a physical trip to city hall to procure a permit. Information is fragmented and inquiry calls yield conflicting answers. Permit regulations, forms, required licenses, and inspections all vary between neighboring municipalities. Consequences for improper permitting can affect future work by licensed contractors, real estate purchases, mortgage eligibility, and in most cases cost hefty fines, rework and lost opportunities for everyone involved.

  • What makes your comapny unique?

With multiple disparate datasets and a simple interface, we provide a free online look-up tool for anyone to use. With two questions, where is the work to be performed and what type of work is being completed, contractors know what building department the property is located in, all the permitting requirements, forms, inspections, and have the ability to pull a permit online for a small transaction fee.

  • Why should investors be interested in your firm?

Our team has worked together for over 3 years leveraging technology to solve problems for contractors. Truth is, our CEO didn’t know what it meant to be a tech startup just 3 years ago, he just wanted to solve a real problem for his growing construction company.

  • AdamMichel, our CTO and co-founder, has over a decade of experience building quality applications for companies like Quirky and Digital Ocean, recently left a mid six figure career to join and is the original developer for an application the the CEO commissioned for his Construction company 3 years ago.
  • Rebecca Antonino, VP of Partnerships and co-founder, is a successful entrepreneur with over 15 years of property management experience and has an insatiable desire for data science. She alone is credited with the reason our app at the minimum offers value on a national scale today.
  • Daniel O’Sullivan, our creative mastermind has had his dashboard designs featured in publications worldwide and created a design methodology known as App Distilling that he now gives presentations all over the U.S.
  • Our CEO, Ray Antonino, has worked as a construction foreman for the largest home builder in the country, built two businesses from scratch, most recent, a construction company of 7 years. That company grew from Myrtle Beach to spanning a 3 state coverage area, crossing over 58 different municipalities and is the underlying reason PermitZone exists today.

This same team built FieldVine, a task management tool for the CEO’s rapidly growing a construction company of which Lowe’s Home Improvement even used for communicating project details, tracking status of job schedules and verifying permit information for their customer and is what Techstars – Austin ‘16 accepted into their program.
