The job training market in the Triangle is about to become more crowded as New York-based General Assembly says it plans to open a local office.

What will be offered in Raleigh? A variety of tech-oriented classes focused on what General Assembly says are “the most in-demand skills across data, tech, design and business.”

For example, a full-time Web Development Immersive class in Washington, D.C., runs 12 weeks and costs $13,000.

However, specifics about General Assembly’s plans are few beyond the announcement the company made Wednesday.

“The precise address location, opening date, and staff have not yet been finalized,” a spokesperson for the company tells WRAL TechWire.

“But, in the meantime, General Assembly will be hosting events and short form workshops throughout Raleigh with local partners in the area, including co-working spaces.”

GA, as its called, is coming to Raleigh as part of an expansion program that will expand the company to 25 locations from the current 15 in six countries.

Calling itself a “global education-to-employment company,” GA launched in 2011 and has so far produced more than 25,000 graduates. Its roots are modest, launching as a co-working space.

Its motto: “Transforming thinkers into creators through education & opportunities in tech, business, & design.”

“We are seeing incredible demand among employers – outside of the traditional urban hotspots more commonly associated with the tech sector – as they struggle to fill jobs that require 21st century skills like web development, data science and UX design,” said Jake Schwartz, co-founder and CEO of GA, in the expansion announcement.

“This demand outstrips the capacity of conventional education which is why we are scaling to an entirely new level, adding resources for people and companies in these additional cities around the world.”

Other expansion cities are:

  • Arlington, Virginia
  • Brisbane/Sunshine Coast, Queensland
  • Brooklyn, New York
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Geelong, Victoria
  • Irvine/Orange County, California
  • San Jose, California
