Ten startups, including one from Raleigh, make up the first cohort selected for the new Creative Startups accelerator program in Winston-Salem.

They will compete for $50,000 in venture funding.

The accelerator is the second for Creative Startups, which is based in New Mexico and launched in 2007. Its other location is in Albuquerque.

The 10 startups selected are:

  • Embodied Labs, Chicago
  • M.I.D. Goods, Nashville, TN
  • Muddy Creek Café, Winston-Salem
  • Partnr, Atlanta
  • Redress Raleigh, Raleigh
  • Taller Nu, Mexico City
  • The Feeling Friends, Winston-Salem

More than 100 startups applied for the Creative program, which opened Monday. It last eight weeks. The first six weeks are an online program. A “Deep Dive” is set for Sept. 25-30 in Winston-Salem and a “Demo Day” is set for Sept. 28 followed by a “pitch” event to investors on Sept. 29.

Three teams will split the $50,000.

A panel of 14 judges, including angel investors, picked the 10 participants.

Guest faculty to mentor the startups will include: Lena Ramfelt, Ph.D., Professor at Stanford University and Co-Founder of Gear-up Ventures; Wendy Castleman, Innovation Leader and Design Thinking Strategist at Intuit; Jon Obermeyer, Chief Content Officer at Apogii, Chad Cheek, Owner of Elephant In The Room; Dalton Grein, Fund Executive of the Piedmont Angel Network; and Toni Sikes, CEO of CODAworx.
