“After fast growth and large venture capital raises, a San Francisco startup with East Coast operations in Durham closes shop,” reports ExitEvent.

“San Francisco startup Move Loot entered the Triangle with daily emails, warehouse open houses and ads on WUNC and social media. It left quietly, with only an email June 29 announcing operations would cease here, and nationally, July 7.”

  • The N&O: Chimerix pins hopes on smallpox antidote

The News and Observer reports that Durham drug firm Chimerix is a “question mark:”

“Today Chimerix is a Wall Street question mark with its [Ebola] drug still unproven and worries that it might never pan out – a victim of diarrhea and changing government priorities.”

  • Triangle Business Journal: Icagen raises $1.5 million

Icagen has closed on $1.5 million in its interesting corporate history as recounted by TBJ:

“Founded by P. Kay Wagoner in 1992 to discover, develop and commercialize small molecules targeting ion channels, Icagen was acquired by Pfizer in 2011. Then last year, XRpro Sciences, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, acquired assets and talent from Pfizer and re-launched Icagen,” TBJ says.

  • TBJ: N.C. State shifts, won’t bring on Charles Hayes after all

TBJ also reports that Charles Hayes won’t be joining N.C. State as reported earlier.

“Hayes, who recently retired from a lengthy career as CEO of the Research Triangle Regional Partnership, was to become senior advisor of economic engagement at NCSU’s office of outreach and engagement. Plans were for him to work with the office’s industry expansion solutions group,” TBJ says.
