HQ Raleigh and Red Hat each captured two awards in WRAL TechWire’s fourth “Full Steam Ahead Awards” on Tuesday night at the Motorco in Durham.

Dave Rizzo, founder of NC IDEA and IDEA Fund Partners, and Research Triangle Regional Partnership CEO Charles Hayes are among five lifetime service award recipients.

Liz Tracy, director of HQ Raleigh, and the four co-founders (Brooks Bell, Jesse Lipson, Christopher Gergen and Jason Widen) of the Raleigh-based company that offers a variety of shared offices and related services to startups were cited in the startup company categories.

DeLisa Alexander, chief people officer at Red Hat, received one of three individual awards for enterprise company executives. Red Hat also won one of three enterprise awards.

The lifetime service, or Editor’s Choice Award, also included the late Betsy Justus, Randall Gregg and Dave Murray.

This was not a Triangle-alone event, either. Wilmington-based NextGlass – one of several nominees from that city – took home an award.

And there was even a tie: ChannelAdvisor co-founder and investor Scot Wingo shared the honor for Enterprise Tycoon with Cindy Whitehead, the former CEO of Sprout Pharmaceuticals.

In all, 17 awards were presented – along with engineer caps. The awards play off the express train theme.

We’ll have complete coverage and photos later this morning.

Winners were based on nominations and voting by WRAL TechWire readers and management.
