A new report by Forbes magazine ranks Raleigh as the third best city in the country for young professionals in 2016. San Francisco tops the list of the 100 largest metros ranked by Forbes.

Ranking criteria included job growth, unemployment rates, incomes, and cost-of-living.

The list ranks the cities with the best prospects for college-educated workers with less than five years experience.

Cities that made the list generally fell into two categories. The first was job heavy economic powerhouses where pay is high and the cost of living is too, such as San Francisco. The second category is midtier markets where the pay is decent and the cost of living is a relative bargain.

Forbes notes the Raleigh areas “abundance of local universities,” its “perpetually educated workforce,” and its proximity to Research Triangle Park.
