Drugmaker Merck, (NYSE:MRK), said it will pay $830 million and attorney’s fees, to sell investor claims related to its drug Vioxx.

The company has a facility in North Durham.

The settlement relates to investors who bought shares between May 21, 1999, and October 29, 2004.

Investors said Merck did not adequately warn them of the risks of heart attacks associated with the drug.

Merck which has withdrawn the drug from the market, did not admit guilt.

Shares were down more than 2 percent at $50.70 in midday trading.
