Wilmington startup event featuring 4 speakers, 9 topics is a sellout

The Network for Entrepreneurs in Wilmington, or NEW, continues to generate buzz about startups in the Wilmington area. Proof? Its latest event, which is set for Thursday, is a sellout with nearly 150 people expected to attend.

Jim Roberts, who is heading up the NEW effort as well as a recently launched angel investment group (WALE), calls the program “VIP4” with four “VIP” speakers. Nine different items are on the agenda.

Speakers include:

• David Jones, Bull City Venture Partners (Wilmington native),
• Doug Ellis (DecisionPoint International – Charlotte),
• Sean O’Leary (CEO of StrikeIron (sold) and Interim Director of NC IDEA) and
• Peter Meath (Square One Bank of Durham (IPO) – Venture Banking)

Topics include:

• Valuations, Venture Banking and Validation of Market Need
• Introductions, IPOs and Exits and Intellectual Property
• Profit, Persistence and People (Management)

The event is set for the Ironclad Brewery. The program opens at 4 p.m.
