Rachit Shukla and his brother Adit were only experimenting with mobile app development when they launched an agency called Two Toasters in Carrboro in 2008.

But a culture of experimentation, creativity and making big bets landed the agency major customers like Airbnb, Birchbox, Acura and MTV, and eventually won the attention of Ticketmaster. After an April 2015 acquisition for an undisclosed sum, the Durham agency is now known as Ticketmaster Mobile Studio and is working to improve mobile ticketing for one of the world’s largest entertainment brands.
The exit is one of seven to happen on the American Tobacco Campus in the last two years. Besides Ticketmaster, major brands like TiVo (Digitalsmiths), NetSuite (Bronto), Red Hat (Ansible) and STATS (Automated Insights) now operate on the campus.
Shukla opened up to ExitEvent Editor Laura Baverman and a crowd gathered for American Underground HelpFest about the decision to sell his successful company and stay along for the ride at Ticketmaster, along with lessons learned along the way and a hint at what’s next in mobile. This video is Q&A style, with most of the audience questions toward the end. Check it out:
