A new report from RootMetrics names AT&T the highest ranked local wireless network in Durham. Last August, AT&T shared the award with Verizon. Verizon was tops in Greensboro and Charlotte posted a three-way tie.

AT&T scored a 98.5 vs. Verison’s 97.2, T-Mobile at 94.5 and Sprint at 93.7.

“AT&T was ranked highest in our September 2015 tests of overall network performance in the Durham area. Our overall RootScore Award looks at data, call and text performance across all data network technologies, including 4G LTE. We look at performance from the consumer’s point of view, and AT&T offered a very strong overall performance for those in Durham during our tests,” said Bill Moore, president and CEO of RootMetrics.

AT&T invested more than $1.6 billion in its North Carolina wireless and wireline networks from 2012 through 2014, and we’ll continue investing to give our customers the best possible experience.

According to the report Sprint’s rate of tests recorded on LTE increased from approximately 57% to 89% since August. Subsequently, Sprint’s median download speed increased from 2.4 Mbps to 7.8 Mbps, and Sprint’s median upload speed increased from 0.6 Mbps to 2.8 Mbps.

T-Mobile’s median download speed increased from 7.7 Mbps to 14.2 Mbps, and T-Mobile’s median upload speed increased from 7.0 Mbps to 11.0 Mbps.

Verizon’s median download speed increased from 12.5 Mbps to 17.5 Mbps, and Verizon’s median upload speed increased from 8.1 Mbps to 10.3 Mbps.

The RootMetrics award is based on analysis of 14,911 wireless test calls, texts and data transmissions conducted during September 2015.

Verizon was named the top wireless network in Greensboro, and Charlotte posted a three-way tie between AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.
