SAS and Kimley-Horn, two Cary companies that often crack various “Best Workplace” lists, are No. 9 and No. 20 respectively on the new Fortune “Best Workplaces for Millennials” list. Only 100 companies made the list.

The two firms – SAS is a software and services company; Kimley-Horn is a design consulting firm – were the only ones based in the Triangle that cracked the better known “100 Best Companies to Work For” list earlier this year.

Both companies are privately held.

Fortune magazine works with Great Place to Work to select companies based on a variety of criteria and surveys of employees.

Millennials are workers born in the 1980s and 1990s.

Among the key factors:

  • Employees feel they receive a fair share of profits
  • Workers believe they are paid fairly
  • Employees believe management involves them in decision making

For the Millennial list, 465 companies were reviewed, and of those 315 had at least 50 employees under the age of 35 in order to be included for consideration. In all, some 90,000 millennials participated.

“SAS is a place where you can make a difference. Our Millennials bring an energy and a new way of looking at things and keep us challenged and progressing” said SAS Vice President of Human Resources Jenn Mann in a statement about the selection.

Power Home Remodeling Group finished first in the survey.
