Jim Roberts has left his position as executive director of UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, UNCW disclosed Thursday.
“Jim Roberts is no longer with UNCW. Please direct all correspondence to Ron Vetter,” is the auto response received from an email sent to Roberts by WRAL TechWire.
Ron Vetter is associate provost of research and dean of UNCW’s graduate school. He also oversees the CIE.
No more information is yet available.
Roberts has been a frequent contributor to WRAL TechWire over several years, including two recent blogs about South by Southwest.

In a statement, UNCW said:
“UNCW thanks Jim Roberts for his leadership of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which concluded today (March 26, 2015), and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
WilmingtonBiz reported that there also is “no news regarding a possible interim director for the center.”
Roberts was named to the CIE position in May 2013.
Jeff Guard, founder of WhittleData, a CIE tenant company, told WilmingtonBiz Roberts’ departure is “not good news.”
“I’m pretty disappointed to hear it,” Guard said. “If Jim were to go somewhere else in Wilmington, I would follow him.”
WilmingtonBiz also quoted Jazmin Capezza of Wired Wizards about the change:
“Jim did a lot to get [the center] off the ground,” Capezza said Thursday. “But Dr. Vetter really cares about the tenants and the purposes of the CIE. I am positive he will make sure that there is as seamless a transition as possible in this situation.”
