  • Cisco To Invest, Train in France

Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) will invest $100 million in startups in France and also will work with that country’s government to help train 200,000 people.

Reports TechCrunch: “[T]he agreement between Cisco and the French Government is not just about startups. The two entities will work together to educate 200,000 people when it comes to network infrastructure jobs. Other parts of the agreement include collaborating on cybersecurity, smart networks and smart cities.”

  • Lenovo Eyes ARM-chip Servers

Lenovo says it will work with the Science and Technology Facilities Council in the U.K. to build and test ARM-chip based servers as possible solutions for high-performance computing and for increased energy efficiency. 

ARM chips are seen as a growing threat to Intel chips.

 

Reports V3 wnews website: “[T]he move means that all three of the major server vendors – Lenovo, HP and Dell – have ARM-based systems in production or under development.”

  • Cree’s New Breakthrough

In the latest of a series of recent technology breakthroughs, Cree (Nasdaq: CREE) says its new CXA LED arrays can cut energy costs up to 60 percent while also increasing lumen density. The arrays utilize SC5 Technology from Cree and include “chip-on-board” capability.  

“With the new CXA2 LED arrays, lighting manufacturers can achieve the same or better performance for applications such as track, downlight and outdoor lighting with a smaller light-emitting surface (LES), delivering up to 33 percent higher efficacy. All the products currently using CXA will work for CXA2, which also helps speed the time of development for customers,” Cree says. 

  • Red Hat Takes Enterprise Linux to Cloud

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) on Tuesday launched its Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 6, which is designed to support cloud computing as needed by business enterprises and others.

RHEL is red Hat’s core product, and Red Hat is a key backer of OpenStack for open source-based cloud solutions.

“Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform delivers the foundation for a production-ready cloud, integrating Red Hat’s hardened and agile OpenStack technology with the security and stability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. AT&T (NYSE: T) is rankedfirst for the sixth-straight year in the Brand Keys 2015 Customer Loyalty Engagement Index (CLEI) Wireless Phone Service category.
 
The study is based on customers’ relationships in 64 categories and across 540 brands, including wireless.
