The “flash sale” model in India is proving to be big hit for Lenovo as it ups its battle with Xiaomi for smartphone sales in India. A third sale in three weeks produces another fast sellout of Lenovo’s low-cost A600 phones.

On Wednesday, Lenovo offered its biggest number of phones yet – 30,000 – through the Flipkart ecommerce site sale.

They were gone in 4 seconds, India media reported.

In the first sale, 10,000 were sold in 2 seconds.

In the second sale, 20,000 went in 3 seconds. (WTW has the details on that sale and its increasing battle with Xiamoi for smartphone sales worldwide. The two are neck-and-neck behind leaders Apple and Samsung.)

See the pattern?

Here’s how India Today in Tech describes the process:

“In India, the flash sale model, which requires prospective buyers to first register for the sale, was pioneered by Xiaomi last year. But now, Xiaomi, Micromax and Lenovo use the method to sell selective phones through online websites. While it creates a lot of buzz, considering there is a huge demand for devices and the stock lasts seconds, it also leaves a large number of consumers dissatisfied. In fact, such is the nature of the sale that many consumers fail to get the devices even after registering and re-registering for the sale week after week.”
