Dr. Stephen DeCherney is the newly named interim chief executive officer at life science services firm Health Decisions.

Dr. Michael Rosenberg, the firm’s founder and CEO, was killed in a plane crash in Maryland last week.

DeCherney, a medical doctor, has led Health Decisions’ global operations and strategic operation with staff spread across 53 countries. Before joining Health Decisions, he worked at Quintiles and PRA International.

According to his bio published at the company website, DeCherney is a trustee, William Harvey Research Institute, of Queen Mary Medical College, St Barts, London, England. He also serves as Chair of the University of Delaware Research Foundation. He is a Trustee of the Christiana Care Health System, Delaware. 

“Dr. DeCherney’s research background includes five years at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and 11 years in various key management roles in the Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware, where Dr. DeCherney was the Principal Investigator for 125 clinical trials. He also served as an associate professor at both the University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson University,” the company says.

Rosenberg was among six people killed when his plane crashed into a house Monday in Gaithersburg, Md.

Rosenberg – a physician, former manager at the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and prolific science writer – founded the company in 1989 and garnered numerous awards for his work.
