North Carolina continues to set a national benchmark for true high-performance broadband connectivity in the public sector. Each year, MCNC recognizes and celebrates the progress and achievements of networking all over the state with NCREN Community Day.

MCNC will host NCREN Community Day 2014 on Wednesday and Thursday at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library at NC State University in Raleigh. This year’s theme “The Next 30” will highlight three decades of networking success and look ahead to next 30 years of broadband connectivity in North Carolina.

MCNC is a technology non-profit based in Research Triangle Park that builds, owns and operates the North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN), which, among many uses, provides Internet connections to every public school in North Carolina – impacting nearly 1.5 million students every day.

More than 200 top government, education, and technology industry leaders in North Carolina and throughout the country are expected to attend this week.

Event highlights include two pre-conference workshops on CyberSecurity Threats & Defenses and Encouraging and Promoting Excellence. Presentation topics include how broadband will affect medical research and the next 30 years of community health care, advanced technology for supporting live music performances over the Internet, how residential broadband is shaping our communities, and finally a panel discussion featuring several national leaders in networking. For three decades NCREN has provided the broadband infrastructure to connect North Carolina citizens to the path of success. The expanded NCREN of today continues to push the networking threshold forward by affordably and effectively removing the bandwidth restraints and connection barriers previously experience in North Carolina.

MCNC also will recognize several individuals this week for distinguished service and commitment to NCREN, which includes a Community Choice Award based participants’ votes.

Event sponsors include: (Zettabyte Sponsor) Cisco Systems; (Gigabyte Sponsors) AT&T, Dell and Presidio (Megabyte Sponsors) CenturyLink Business Solutions, Conterra Broadband Services, EMC Corporation, NWN Corporation and SunTrust Bank; (Door Prizes) BalsamWest, ECC Technologies, Financial Directions, Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, K&L Gates, Progressive Benefit Solutions, a Marsh & McLennan Agency, Raleigh Convention Center, and Wells Fargo Insurance.

The two-day event will be held at the Institute for Emerging Issues and the James B. Hunt Jr. Library.
