Mark Johnson, chief technology officer at MCNC and a former executive with Internet 2, is part of the speaker lineup for WRAL TechWire’s conference “Fiber Transforms the Triangle.”

Johnson, a networking veteran with some two decades of experience, is also vice president of data architecture at MCNC.

MCNC has deployed the state’s first coast-to-mountain fiber-optic network, the North Carolina Research and Education Network, or NCREN.

Attendees at the event will get inside story on how fiber-optic networks will change the way we live, work and play in the Triangle.

“Fiber Transforms the Triangle,” a WRAL TechWire Executive Exchange event, is being hosted by SAS.

The half-day conference on Oct. 13 features a lineup of industry experts, including a keynote by former FCC executive Blair Levin, who will share their insights about what the North Carolina Next Generation Network, AT&T and other providers (including the possibility of Google Fiber) means.

Two panel discussions form the heart of the program. One will focus on business opportunities that fiber networks offer; the second will include insight from the service providers themselves – what they will offer, costs and more.

Johnson will participate in the service provider panel.

More speakers will be added and announced shortly.

You can attend this high-powered event for the price of $49.

The ticket makes you an annual subscriber to WRAL TechWire, the only news site in the Triangle focused exclusively on high-tech, life science, venture capital and fund raising, economic development and startups.
