Justin Miller, the colorful CEO of Raleigh-based WedPics, promised to bring home a new tattoo that would be a tribute to Raleigh after serving as the capital city’s “ambassador” at South by Southwest this week in Austin Texas.

Known as “the tattooed guy” for his colorful array of tatts fulfilled the promise.

“Sir Walter Raleigh, the Bat!”

So wrote Miller in an email with a photo of the new tatt.

“Decided to blend Raleigh with Austin … TA DAH!”

For those of you who know the Sir Walter story but don’t know the bat angle … well, it’s not the Dark Knight.

Austin is home to huge bat colonies.

Miller, a former IBMer, won a contest to represent Raleigh at the SXSW, and he traveled to the Texas capital along with a delegation representing the City, the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and HQ Raleigh. Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane also was part of the delegation.

Before getting to Austin, Miller said representing Raleigh was a thrill.

“I’m really excited that it worked out and plan to do my part (however weird/wild it may be) repping the city down in Austin,” he said.

Soon, he’ll be back at WedPics, which moved into space at the new HQRaleigh from offices on Hillsborough Street.

And you can bet he’ll be showing off his Sir Walter creation.
