In an interview with Barron’s, Cisco Chairman and CEO John Chambers says the networking giant is recovering from recent setbacks and its bet on the “Internet of Everything” is paying off.

One would like that Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) turned in a red-hot earnings report earlier this week. Not so. Sales slowed.

But in an interview with Tiernan Ray of Barron’s, Chambers unleashed some trash talk as he hyped Cisco’s advances in the “IoE” world with devices and services that are linked.

He even says Cisco doesn’t have to offer to buy the drinks for potential or existing customers.

“We are not only the thought leader, we’re back in vogue,” Chambers told Ray. “Instead of me having to buy a drink, we’re getting offers for dinners right and left.”

Touting Cisco’s integrated offerings, he added:

“You can’t do what we did without an architecture. Companies that stay with individual products, especially if they’re hardware — they’re going to be road-kill.”

In a conference call with analysts, Chambers aid the IoE is at an inflection point and Cisco was pushing hard at opportunities.
