The “Underground” experience for entrepreneurs and startups is already underway in the capital city, but the official celebration of American Underground@Raleigh is set for next week.

Even though some companies have been moving into space “before Christmas,” the new launch pad for startups at 213 Fayetteville Street will formally celebrate its opening with an “opening party” on Feb. 19. About 200 people already are registered to attend.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., says Adam Klein, who is Chief Strategist for American Underground. He acknowledges that “teams” were moved in before Christmas, and the process has continued.

Space is available for at least 25 companies.

An added feature is a suite of facilities set aside to link startups that operate across Underground locations.

Underground@Raleigh also will host BandwidthLabs, which is the incubator group set up by Raleigh-based Bandwidth. The company operates Republic Wireless and offers a variety of networking related services across the U.S.

The Underground already operates at The American Tobacco Historic District and on Main Street in Durham under the name Underground@Main. Capitol Broadcasting, which also is the parent company of WRALTechWire, is the owner. The first Underground launched in 2010.

Underground@Raleigh is located above the Foundation bar.

Just last week, ThinkHouse – a remodeled home to house entrepreneurs – formally opened its doors.

Also, HQRaleigh is expanding into additional space/

“The Triangle as a whole is now alive to the idea that we can be an international hub of the kind of innovation that leads to new companies and jobs,” Klein said when the @Raleigh expansion was announced. “We have the universities, we have the talented, dedicated visionaries. @Raleigh represents an opportunity for us to better link our regional assets and make it possible for startups to work across the Triangle easily and seamlessly. We look forward to collaborating with others who share this vision for regional success.”

American Underground also announced the acquisition of ExitEvent – a web site and a series of networking events – last week.
