AT&T has named Charlotte as one of six markets launching the company’s new Digital Life service on Friday, a service that allows customers to manage aspects of their home from their smartphones, tablets or computers.

Digital Life offers the ability to control home aspects such as security, appliances and lighting. Customers in Charlotte go to AT&T retail stores for a live demo see a live demo of Digital Life and to purchase the system. The other markets in Friday’s launch are are Hartford, Conn.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Milwaukee, Oklahoma City; and Tulsa, Okla.

The Friday launch brings to 45 the total number of markets where AT&T has deployed Digital Life. The company plans to offer the service in 50 markets by the end of the year. Customers can choose from two base plans. Simple Security, which starts at $29.99 a month plus $149.99 for equipment, is the basic home security package. Smart Security, at $39.99 a month plus $249.99 for equipment, offers the same features as the basic package with the choice of additional features such as motion sensors and glass break sensors.
