The owner of the NHL Carolina Hurricanes doesn’t only think about hockey these days.

While he is no longer chairman and CEO of Compuware, the software company in Detroit he co-founded, Pete Karmanos is still among the technology elite.

WRALTechWire has images from last week’s big tech conference in Sun Valley Idaho where Karmanos was photographed by Bloomberg.

Karmanos was photographed on two different occasions, once as he arrived to a morning session at the Allen & Co. Media and Technology Conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, U.S., on Friday. Executives from media, finance and politics mingle at the mountain resort between presentations on business trends and social issues, brought together by New York investment banker Herb Allen.

He also was photographed with his wife Danielle Karmanos on Friday.

Meanwhile, Compuware faces a renewed takeover threat this week.

“The rocky and drawn-out courtship between Detroit-based Compuware and [Elliott Management Corp.] a New York hedge fund will enter a new chapter Monday when a second ‘standstill’ agreement expires, setting the stage again for a friendly acquisition, a nasty takeover fight or a mutually agreed separation,” The Detroit Free Press reported on Sunday.

Karmanos has warned that a takeover could mean the breakup of the firm.

Karmanos retired as executive chairman in March. The firm has an office in Durham.

Bloomberg recently reported that Compuware (Nasdaq: CPWR) has attracted buyout interest from private-equity funds including Apax Partners LLP and Hellman & Friedman LLC.

Compuware rejected a $2.3 billion takeover offer from Elliott Management Corp. The company has also talked with Thoma Bravo LLC and Golden Gate Capital Corp., sources told Bloomberg.
