Epic Games has racked up another win.

The company’s co-founders Tim Sweeney and Mark Rein were inducted into Develop magazine’s games development hall of fame in Brighton, England. Sweeney is CEO and technical director of the Cary-based company. Rein is vice president.

The Develop Industry Excellence Awards are now in their 11th year. They typically reward the creative and commercial accomplishments of game developers across Europe. But the year marks the first time the Development Legend award was presented to someone outside of Europe. Previous recipients include British-born industry leaders David Braben, Charles Cecil, Phil Harrison, Ian Livingstone, Peter Molyneux and David Perry. Sweeney and Rein were honored for their success leading Epic Games for 22 years and also for pioneering Unreal Engine game development technology.

“As this current generation of games consoles closes and as interactive content continues to spread across mobile, web and away from the TV, it is the right time to present our prestigious Legend honor to those who have helped define these changes,” Develop Editor in Chief Michael French said in a statement. “The Unreal Engine has supported games of all sizes from around the world, from modern blockbusters to mobile innovations.”
