Red Hat has hired an executive from rival VMWare to lead the open source software company’s global efforts.

Scott Musson is now Red Hat’s vice president of Global Strategic Alliances. Among his responsibilities will be managing the Raleigh company’s strategic relationships with companies such as HP, IBM, Dell and Cisco. Musson held similar responsibilities at VMWare, where he was senior director of Global Strategic Alliances. Before joining VMWare, Musson worked at NCR, HP and Dell.

In other regional hiring moves:

Morrisville-based BlueStripe Software has promoted Nick Burling to Vice President of Product Management. Burling previously served as Director of Product Management, where he focused on building relationships with customers. In his new role, Burling will oversee the strategy, execution and development of the company’s FactFinder software, which monitors transactions for IT operations.

Fulcrum Equity Partners, an Atlanta-based growth equity fund managing more than $140 million and investing in rapidly growing companies in IT, health care and technology-enabled operating companies, has named Jim Douglass a partner. Before joining Fulcrum, Douglass was CEO of Vesdia, which merged with Cartera Commerce in January 2011.
