The Renaissance Computing Institute (RENCI) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has won two awards at the 2013 HPC Innovation Excellence Awards.
RENCI received two of the 11 total awards presented. RENCI was recognized for NCGENES and ADCIRC Surge Guidance System, projects that use RENCI-developed technologies and computing resources.
NCGENES is a RENCI collaboration with the UNC School of Medicine that systemizes the steps of genomic data analysis and uses high performance computing to mine genomic data for clinical and research uses. The ADCIRC Surge Guidance System (ASGS) produces high-resolution forecasts of storm surge, near shore waves, and water inundation when tropical or extra-tropical storms threaten the Atlantic or Gulf coasts of the United States.
The HPC Innovation Excellence Awards recognize noteworthy achievements by users of high performance computing (HPC) technologies.
