Thought the layoff news was over at IBM? Think again.

“Just when I thought I missed the cuts got the call first thing this morning. Mixed feelings I love my job and my IBM team members but have to look at this now as an opportunity to leave this toxic environment,” an IBM employee in RTP posted Monday on the Alliance at IBM website.

“Hundreds” are being laid off in N.C., WRALTechWire reported last week, based on a source familiar with the details. However, as reports continue to come out about job cuts, Big Blue has not filed anything official with the state of North Carolina about layoffs, which are part of a $1 billion “rebalancing.”

The initial news of IBM layoffs last week generated media attention worldwide, but in the days since then reporters and publications have moved on to other news, not bothering to report the latest casualty figures. Not WRALTechWire.

As we have in years past, WRALTechWire will continue to provide updates and coverage of the latest reduction in Big Blue’s U.S. and Canadian work force.

The latest update based on internal documents provided by IBM workers to Alliance at IBM (the union seeking to represent them) shows more than 2,800 North American employees stand to lose their jobs. They are spread across 42 work groups.
