Art Pappas, one of the deans of the venture capital industry in North Carolina, is among five executives named to the board of the National Venture Capital Association on Wednesday at its annual meeting in San Francisco.

The NVCA is the largest organization representing the interests of the venture industry.

Pappas is managing partner of Pappas Ventures, a VC firm he launched in 1994. It focuses exclusively on life science investments. Pappas has more than $350 million in capital under management.

Pappas and the other board members were elected to four year terms.

The NVCA also elected Josh Green of Mohr Davidow Ventures as its new chairman.

“It is an honor and a pleasure to join the NVCA Board of Directors, especially during such a critical time for the venture capital industry,” Pappas said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the organization and the board in developing policies that can further foster innovation and facilitate the creation of good jobs throughout the U.S. economy.”

Other directors include: Scott Kupor, Andreessen Horowitz; Sue Siegel, GE healthymagination; John Backus, New Atlantic Ventures; Mark Leschly, Rho Capital Partners; and Jim Healy, Sofinnova Ventures.
