Broadband and wireless expansion across North Carolina means more hiring at AT&T (NYSE: T).

The company said Monday that it plans to add more than 250 jobs to help expand its network across the state.

The telecommunication firm also has some 150 open jobs.

“These jobs are located across the state, including the Triangle, Triad, Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington and elsewhere,” AT&T spokesperson Josh Gelinas says. “There are about 60 jobs in the Triangle.”

The company is looking for several different skill sets.

“Project managers, network analysts, installation technicians, to name a few,” Gelinas explains.

AT&T recently announced plans to increase hiring of veterans, and Gelinas points out: “Veterans who are a good fit for these jobs are encouraged to apply.”

“Governor [Pat] McCrory and North Carolina’s legislative leaders have worked hard to build a forward-looking policy climate that stimulates economic growth,” said Venessa Harrison, president of AT&T North Carolina, in the jobs announcement. “By updating obsolete and unnecessary laws and regulations, they are encouraging the investment of private capital to build advanced technology networks that deliver an exciting future of new benefits in health care, manufacturing, education, transportation, public safety, and virtually every other economic sector.”

AT&T had previously disclosed it had invested more than $1.5 billion in network upgrades over the past three years.

Nationwide, AT&T also has committed several billion dollars to expansion and upgrades nationally, but it has not spelled out specific details about North Carolina.

The company has expanded its latest wireless technology, called 4G, across much of the state,

It also is adding new technology such as “small cells,” distributed antenna systems and “macro sites” to broaden its wireless reach.

The company also recently announcded plans to begin selling a variety of home monitoring and technology services.
