In the battle for IBM jobs, it’s apparently Baton Rouge 1, Lincoln 0.

Media reports in Louisiana and Nebraska say IBM (NYSE: IBM) has selected Baton Rouge for a new development center that will employ up to 1,100 people.

The Greater Baton Rouge Business Report and a CBS affiliate say IBM will announce the decision Tuesday.

The daily newspaper in Lincoln, Neb., carried a similar report.

Some 600 to 700 jobs are planned initially.

As part of the deal, IBM reportedly will partner with Louisiana State University to expand programs in computer science.

Lincoln has apparently finished second in the race to land a large IBM operation that would have employed several hundred people.

IBM employs some 10,000 people across North Carolina.
