Adam Covati is in and Eric Boggs is out as chief executive officer at Durham startup ArgyleSocial.

“Yes, that is true,” Covati told WRAL Tech Wire when asked about the change late Wednesday.

“The change in management took place on Wednesday, Nov. 14,” Covati added, noting that the move was difficult.

“This wasn’t an easy decision for the management team and board to make,” he explained.

“However, as the company has moved forward the role became less of a fit for Eric’s skill-set. After some conversation about this, Eric agreed to step down as CEO.”

Covati is a member of the ArgyleSocial board. He also had served as chief technology officer. Before helping launch ArgyleSocial he was product manager at Durham-based email marketing services provider Bronto.

ArgyleSocial provides tools for customers to track and capitalize on social media.

“Social media marketers post content all day. You need a publishing interface that will do exactly what you need quickly and with minimal fuss. We built a simple, elegant posting interface to do exactly that. Let us show you how much more efficient you could be,” ArgyleSocial says.

Other Changes

The CEO change triggered other moves as well.

Covati pointed out that Tristan handy, previously director of operations, is now chief operating officer.

Danny Olinsky takes over as director of sales. He was one of the firm’s first hires.

Boggs does remain involved with the company for the time being, however.

“Eric is still very invested in Argyle’s success, and will be helping during the transition period,” Covati explained. “He is currently looking forward to other opportunities.”

ArgyleSocial currently employs 11 people and is moving forward, Covati added.

“We recently released a Social CRM capability within our product offering called Contacts (http://argylesocial.com/what-is-argyle/features/social-crm) – this helps marketers to better understand the context of social conversations. This will also serve as the basis for our new focus on Marketing Automation as it is applied to the Social Media space. We will be doubling down on Social Media Marketing Automation capabilities over the following weeks and months.”

ArgyleSocial is backed by Madison River Ventures and IDEA Fund Partners as well as four angel investors:

  • Greg Cangialosi, founder, CEO Blue Sky Factory (Acquired by WhatCounts)
  • Jed Carlson, founder, COO ReverbNation.com
  • Aaron Houghton, founder, Chairman iContact
  • Taylor Mingos, founder, CEO Shoeboxed
